LITERARY STUDIES MASTERCLASS

RAMON GUILLERMO

The Digital Humanities (DH) master class will be made up of two sessions. The first session will be an opportunity to discuss and share historical, philosophical, societal aspects and, perhaps, even cultural aspects of DH in Southeast Asian contexts. Related topics such as the impact of advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) on DH may also be touched upon in this session. The second session will give some practical demonstrations of some simple approaches and applications in DH which the lecturer has tried to develop in his own practice throughout the years. There will be some discussion of the programming language Python as well as some other useful and easily accessible applications.

THE SPEAKER'S BIONOTES

Ramon "Bomen" Guillermo is the director of the Center for International Studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman. He has written several books and studies on the transmission and dissemination of political ideas and ideologies in Southeast Asia using techniques from translation studies and digital humanities. He is a proponent of Philippine Studies as an autonomous communication community. In 2022, he joined other academics as co-convenors of the Network in Defense of Historical Truth and Academic Freedom.
